The 1st Asia-Pacific Coral Reef Symposium was organised in 2006 to provide a platform for scientists, educators, managers, environmentalists, and other stakeholders in the region to share their knowledge and expertise on the fields of coral reef biology, ecology, management and conservation, with the intention of forging greater cooperation and effective programmes for collaboration to preserve their common marine natural heritage.

With the theme ‘Coral reef science and management in a rapidly changing world’, the 5th APCRS will be held a the National University of Singapore (NUS) and continue to be a forum for reef scientists and managers to present, discuss and integrate the science and conservation of Asia-Pacific coral reef ecosystems.

The United States of America will host the 37th General Meeting 19 – 23 September 2023. This will be the second General Meeting of the United States of America’s third tenure chairing the International Coral Reef Initiative, which will be held in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i.

ICRI is a global partnership working to preserve and protect coral reefs and associated ecosystems and the 37th General Meeting will bring together ICRI members from around the world face-to-face for the first time since the 34^th General Meeting in Townsville 2019 to discuss the achievements of ICRI and members, share knowledge and experiences, and drive the implementation of the 2021 – 2024 Plan of Action: Turning the Tide for Coral Reefs.

The meeting will also include key discussions and sessions regarding the Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network (GCRMN).

Prior to the commencement of the ICRI general meeting, the GCRMN will convene its steering committee for days, 18 – 19 September 2023.

on 5th February 2024, the GCRMN will convene its Regional Coordinators for an online meeting to discuss latest updates from he region and upcoming GCRMN activities for 2024, including the next global status report.
